As part of an ongoing digital transformation project on the Vancouver campus, over the December holiday break SHCS IT completed an upgrade to enable our Point of Sale (POS) system to use the UBCcard’s contactless technology—Near Field Communications (NFC)—for transactions, allowing customers to tap, rather than swipe, their cards for greater efficiency, convenience and security.
The initial rollout to residence dining halls has been well received and, together with Food Services, the Bookstore, the UBCcard team, and Marketing and Communications, IT plans to roll out this enhancement to Food Services’ retail outlets and the Bookstore over the next couple of months.
