SHCS Road Warriors

The SHCS Road Warriors is our Go By Bike Week team—a top UBC and Metro Vancouver team!

Every Go By Bike Week, which happens two to three times per year, the SHCS Road Warriors hop on their bikes, log their rides and have a great time participating alongside thousands of other riders across BC.

Plus, some great prizes are up for grabs for all registered riders who log a ride.

You don’t need to ride a lot—or even to work! You can ride any length and for any reason, including riding for fun or while doing errands.

🏆 Congratulations Road Warriors

Riding a combined 1,162 km during fall 2025 Go By Bike Week, the SHCS Road Warriors successfully defended the UBC trophy for most kilometres cycled and a top ten spot in Metro Vancouver. Bravo!

Team captain

Starting in spring 2025, Mike McGhee, from SHCS Marketing and Communications, has taken on the role of team captain.

Past team captains

For many years, the team was led by Joanne Thember, from SHCS Occupational Health and Safety, an intrepid team captain who poured countless hours into building up the team’s membership, encouraging riders and turning the SHCS Road Warriors into the competitive force we are today.

Ahead of her retirement, Joanne passed the torch to Scott Kirkpatrick from SHCS Facilities and Building Services, who brought the team to victory once again in spring 2024.
