These employees are sustainability and environmental champions, although they might be the strong but silent type—and only those closest to them would know about their efforts.

This person could be a Child Care or Residence Life staff member integrating sustainability education into their programming; they could be a Food Services staff member whose passion for plant-based cooking goes beyond residence dining; they could be a housekeeper who is also a weekend beekeeper. Later this winter, award recipients will be announced in several SHCS communications, plus they will get a certificate acknowledging their award and an opportunity to celebrate and be recognized with colleagues and SHCS/VPS leadership.

Recipients will also have their name listed on the newly installed recognition wall, located in the SHCS Main Office.

This awards program grew out of our unit’s People Plan, which identified an opportunity, based on direct feedback from staff, for increased recognition of staff contributions to their department, SHCS, UBC, and the wider community. Recipients will also have their name listed on the awards recognition wall, located in the SHCS Main Office.

Nominations for the 2023 Outstanding Contribution Awards are now closed. We will welcome nominations for the 2024 OCAs in January–February 2025.
