Thank you for your interest in the SHCS Hero Awards! These awards are a way for Student Housing and Community Services to acknowledge the vital and important contributions employees make on a daily basis.
Any active (i.e., scheduled and working) SHCS Vancouver supervisor, manager, or associate director is eligible to nominate another active employee of SHCS who they supervise.
Recipients of the Hero Awards enrich the workplace and have a positive impact on their colleagues and our clients, customers, and community.
Among other great qualities, they have an incredible work ethic, are highly productive and are collaborative, supportive, and trustworthy colleagues who inspire through action.
They are champions of the SHCS vision and mission. Through their attitude, conduct and influence, they make SHCS a better place to work.
- Must be an active employee within SHCS. (Student workers are not included.)
- Excels in the fulfillment of their assigned roles and responsibilities, frequently exceeding expectations.
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in their work.
- Inspires others to work collaboratively, perform with excellence, and produce a high quality of work.
- Fosters a respectful, collegial, and supportive work environment and community.
- Embody the vision/mission and values of the UBC, SHCS, and departmental strategic plans (as applicable).
Later this fall, recipients will be announced in several SHCS communications, plus they will get an opportunity to celebrate and be recognized with colleagues and SHCS/VPS leadership. Recipients will also have their name listed on the awards recognition wall, located in the SHCS Main Office.
This awards program grew out of our unit’s People Plan, which identified an opportunity, based on direct feedback from staff, for increased recognition of staff contributions to their department, SHCS, UBC, and the wider community.
