Growing young chefs through community outreach

This spring, UBC Food Services partnered with Growing Chefs, a Vancouver based non-profit organization that connects volunteer chefs with children in Vancouver public schools to teach about healthy, just and sustainable food systems. As part of the partnership, UBC Vancouver chefs David Speight, Darren Clay, Amanda Rehel and Johnny Bridge have been visiting a grade two classroom at Van Horne Elementary School regularly. With the children, our chefs planted a windowsill garden, talked about composting, urban farming, gardening, healthy vegetables and more. In the final sessions, our chefs and the children will harvest the windowsill garden and cook and share a healthy meal together.
