When Culinary Director & Executive Chef David Speight arrived from Rogers Arena, he left behind a fully-operational food recovery and donation program that he started at the organization, which continues to provide food to those in need throughout the Lower Mainland. We are excited that he is currently implementing a similar program right here in SHHS!
Budget Update from Andrew Parr
April 1 is April Fool’s Day. It is also the first day of the fiscal year at UBC – and in SHHS. While the financial statements are not quite finalized, I am pleased to report that fiscal 2016-17, which ended on March 31, 2017 was yet another record breaking year in every segment of business within SHHS.

On January 20, 2017, over 500 SHHS staff members gathered at the River Rock Casino Resort for the SHHS Staff Appreciation Party and Long Service Awards.
Hero Coffee + Market
This month we welcomed Hero Coffee + Market to the SHHS family. Hero officially opened on February 6 in Orchard Commons and has quickly become a hotspot for Orchard residents, students across campus, and the university community.

Welcome to 2017 – a year that I can assure you will be packed with projects, activities, and initiatives which will further increase and enhance our positive impact on the UBC community. In 2017 we will continue to focus on strategic growth, service excellence, and an outstanding workplace culture. I have summarized a few key initiatives and priorities for SHHS in 2017, which I hope you will take a moment to review.
In Memoriam: Victor Guillen-Solano (1964–2016)
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Victor Guillen-Solano (October 27, 1964–November 18, 2016), one of our valued SHHS colleagues. Victor was a dedicated member of SHHS who worked on our Mobile and Events team as a food truck cook, after first joining SHHS in 2013 as a cook in our residence dining rooms.
SHHS & VPS United Way Fundraising
SHHS and the Vice President, Students portfolio contribute significantly to United Way UBC fundraising efforts each year.
Through a garage sale, customer participation week, jeans days, and more we support United Ways’ amazing work in the community.
