And yet, for the hundreds of families with children in care, Child Care Services offers a personal and familiar environment that belies the size of their organization. Residence Life: Beyond the Buildings
Over 13,000 students live in residence at UBC – at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Between the two campuses, we have 17 residence communities – and each year we open a new residence or house to accommodate the growing campus population. But within UBC Student Housing, our Residence Life teams go way beyond just providing students with a room to study and sleep in.
New Totem Park House Name
At a wonderful and moving unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 the new name for Building 7 at Totem Park Residence was gifted to UBC and SHHS by the Musqueam First Nation. We are so honoured to be gifted this very important name in Musqueam history and culture: c̓əsnaʔəm House, or c̓əsnaʔəm leləm̓.
Planning a conference: A peek behind the curtain
UBC Conferences & Accommodation (C&A) is a lesser-known, but big part of the SHHS family. A fundamental part of their operation is their summer conference season, which takes place from May to August each year. Leading in Safety | New SHHS Joint Committee on Health & Safety
We are pleased to announce the creation of the SHHS Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (SHHS JOHSC), which began operating on April 24, 2017. The committee’s role is to review incidents and safety-related concerns from within SHHS and to make recommendations that will increase safety for SHHS staff.
Glean this! SHHS Food Recovery & Donation Program
When Culinary Director & Executive Chef David Speight arrived from Rogers Arena, he left behind a fully-operational food recovery and donation program that he started at the organization, which continues to provide food to those in need throughout the Lower Mainland. We are excited that he is currently implementing a similar program right here in SHHS!
Budget Update from Andrew Parr
April 1 is April Fool’s Day. It is also the first day of the fiscal year at UBC – and in SHHS. While the financial statements are not quite finalized, I am pleased to report that fiscal 2016-17, which ended on March 31, 2017 was yet another record breaking year in every segment of business within SHHS.
