SHCS Vancouver staff at a StarRez training session in March.
Both UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver have reached significant milestones in transitioning to StarRez, a new Student Housing Management System that will modernize SHCS accommodation systems and workflows.
UBC Okanagan
As of May 1, UBC Okanagan Conference and Accommodation summer operations have fully transitioned to the new management system. This change has streamlined guest bookings, improved reporting and created a consistent platform experience heading into the busy summer season.
UBCO Student Housing first launched Winter Session applications through the StarRez platform in Fall 2025. The team is now preparing to assign housing placements to students through the new management system, setting the stage for a smoother, more transparent experience for students and staff.
The launch represents a significant cross‑campus collaboration between Student Housing, Conferences, IT, Finance, and Marketing and Communications.
Thank you to the SHCS Okanagan Accommodations Team—Maaike Ammerlaan, Arleen Depluzer, Suzie McCormick, Luke Pollock, Alex MacNaull, Alvin Nganga and Jenny DeGelder—for their leadership, problem‑solving and countless hours preparing for the transition.
UBC Vancouver
UBCV Student Housing launched the first phase of the management system transition in early May, starting with new Student Family Housing applications and the waitlist.
The next phase will include payment functionality and the full transition of Student Family Housing contracts on July 1, with Year Round and Winter Session residence applications to follow in Fall 2026.
Thank you to Weronika Waszczuk, Sarah Bellis and Amy Stewart on the Student Residence team for leading the StarRez application launch for Student Family Housing.
IT, Finance, and Marcom support
Thank you as well to SHCS IT, Finance, and Marketing and Communications partners—Rosanna Chiu, Sydney Dunn, Tony Huynh, Trixie Cadlaon, Chris Yong, Shari Jia, Rob Wharton, Kristen Thompson and Charlotte Sander—for their expertise, collaboration and steady support throughout the ongoing implementation on both campuses.
