“You may remember her from the old parkade booth days, or maybe you crossed paths at the GSAB building. For the past decade, you’ve likely found her smiling and solving problems at the Access Desk in the Bookstore—and if you did, chances are you also heard that signature Carmen giggle that instantly makes any parking problem seem a little less stressful.
“Carmen isn’t just friendly—she’s a walking encyclopedia of parking knowledge and one of the reasons our department runs as smoothly as it does.

A lot of the students made Mercante their dinner and lunch spot a few times a week, for the great food but also to be able to chat with Betty.

“When Allan started working at UBC 40 years ago he wore many hats:
- he was a Faculty of Commerce (now Sauder) student;
- he was a resident of Totem Park Residence;
- during the academic year he was employed as a student advisor providing support to other residence students;
- and in the summer he worked in Conferences and Accommodation
“Upon graduating from Commerce in 1989, Allan took on a full time position at C&A. Just a few years later, in 1994, he was promoted to general manager of C&A—the position he holds today.
“Allan appreciates quality. For example, he is a lover of big red wines, single malt scotch, rib eyes cooked to perfection and quality chocolate. At work he strives for delivering quality to everyone who uses the services he oversees.
