“Rebecca has been a valued member of UBC Student Housing since starting as a Housekeeper in April 2000. She began her distinguished career at Acadia Park before moving to Walter Gage Residence, where she flourished under the leadership of legendary Building Services Manager, Mahara Silva. Over 25 years, Rebecca has worked across nearly every residence, bringing determination, positivity, and a cheerful spirit to every team she joins.

“For the past two years, she has served as Building Service Supervisor at Walter Gage Residence, where her hands-on leadership and genuine care for her team members and residents shine through every day. Rebecca takes great pride in making the many spaces within and around Walter Gage Residence sparkle, mentoring new hires, and making residents feel at home.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was part of the changeover team, keeping Student Housing’s common areas safe during a period of unprecedented uncertainty. Her commitment to safety also extends to her Local Safety Team, on which she is a long-serving representative.

One of the most recent comments we received came from the Allard School of Law.

When Janice’s schedule changed and she was no longer at the Law Cafe, the team reached out to check on her, concerned that they hadn’t seen her in a while. When they learned she had moved to a different location, they even requested to have her back because everyone missed her presence. As a token of their appreciation, the Law team brought her gifts to thank her for her dedication and kindness.
