Hello SHCS Colleagues,
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the staff surveys that were distributed in the fall, and more recently to Bookstore, Campus Mail and Parking and Access. We heard from 48% of you across all SHCS departments and learned so much from your responses.
You will recall our commitment to both provide the findings to you and also share with you the tangible actions we are committed to undertaking as a result. Overall, SHCS staff rank the workplace experience at 7.22 out of 10. This rating shows that we already have a positive workplace in SHCS and, more importantly, that there is opportunity for improvement. Thanks to your survey input and the feedback Jen Dowdeswell received during her Listening Tour and group conversations, we have identified four themes to focus on.
- Create shared vision and strategic alignment
- Build connection and community
- Develop and engage our people
- Increase efficiency and innovation in systems, processes and recruitment practices
What’s next?
In the coming months, sub-themes and action steps will be outlined in the 5-year SHCS People Plan. We will be consulting with stakeholders from across the unit, at all levels, to co-create the ‘when’ and ‘how’ required to realize each action step.
Based on the participation and input from this whole process, it has become very clear to me that we have a great team of people, who are passionate about their work, and who want to make it better. I am confident that with focus and efforts by each and every one of us in SHCS, we can create a truly exceptional workplace.
With appreciation and anticipation,
Andrew Parr
