On Thursday, May 16, 2024, we were excited to host our second annual Apprentice Dinner at the University Centre.
At this special event, which provides our UBC Food Services’ culinary apprentices the opportunity to showcase their skills to the wider community, guests experienced a three-course dinner designed, prepared and executed exclusively by our team of apprentices.

“By offering a culinary apprenticeship program, we have created an initiative that’s positive for our operations and our people. It offers a development opportunity for cooks who want to learn more, grow their careers and become Red Seal Chefs, while also developing our future culinary leaders to help our operations thrive. Truly a double win!” — David Speight, Executive Chef and Culinary Director, Food Services

About the program

Through the three-year culinary apprenticeship program with UBC Food Services, apprentices can learn every aspect of the food service business and earn their Red Seal certification right here at UBC. Since the program’s inception in 2017, we have graduated ten Red Seal chefs!
