On March 30, 2016, UBC celebrated the opening of Phase 2 and completion of Ponderosa Commons.
The completion of Ponderosa 2 brings an additional 555 upper year undergraduate and graduate residence beds, an academic and research space for the Faculties of Arts and Education and features an 18th floor study lounge that boasts awe-inspiring views. In addition, there are classrooms, conference rooms, event space with catering areas, two interior courtyards, and offices for UBC’s Department of Education.
“Ponderosa Commons has come to life beyond our expectations,” said SHHS Managing Director, Andrew Parr in an interview with HCMA Architecture + Design. “Students report high levels of satisfaction with their accommodations, amenities and proximity to the campus core.”
Harvest grocery market, at the base of the building, is also a new addition to Ponderosa Phase 2. Serving up gourmet salads, epic sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, fruits, veggies, take-out meals and basic groceries, Harvest is on it’s way to becoming UBC’s favourite spot for a quick, tasty bite.
